election day sky.

yes, it's election day, and yes, i voted. however, i think that who and what you vote for is a very personal thing, and there are so many, many weblogs out there dedicated to politics.

however, this is my photoblog...where politics don't matter.

so i present to you...tonight's evening sky, taken from the second-story mens' locker room of my gym. the gym, gorilla sports (a bally establishment), used to be the grand, grand alhambra theater. however, the theater went dark in late 2000, and sat empty for a while. it was resurrected when it was converted into a neighborhood gym, which is actually a very creative way to recycle such a gorgeous old building. the marquee is still lit up, and the old movie screen now broadcasts cnn in the morning and evening, and old movies the rest of the time. the balconies are now home to the cardio machines, and the floor where patrons once sat to watch movies is now filled with weight machines and free weights. yoga and kickboxing classes are conducted in the large area in front of the old screen.

it's actually quite amazing to do bench presses while staring at the incredibly ornate ceiling. i used to see movies there when it was a neighborhood theater, and now...i work out in the same place.

it's a wonderfully quirky aspect of my existence...and another one of those "only in san francisco" things.

here are some links to look at:

history of the theater: http://www.cinematreasures.org/theater/2247

how it appears today: http://www.noehill.com/sf/landmarks/vanness/alhambra.jpg

FINALLY...someone who doesn't POUND their political beliefs into evryone!!! YAY for that!

That's all.

these shots kickass chad. i like the contrast and juxtaposition of the dark sharp structured buildings with colors in the sky with the randomness of the clouds. they're excellent. Mon 8-Nov-2004 05:39

I like that you note the marquee is still illuminated and that the grand old building is preserved, even its current use. There are, around my city, old broken-down marquees that I wish I could save, not to own them, but to preserve them. Mon 8-Nov-2004 17:37

Very good eye in getting the clouds to "paint" the truck! A most unusual SF cloud pattern, and you caught it! Sat 16-Jul-2005 05:55
